The Story

Brendon and Srey were seeking to move their family to Christchurch from Melbourne, but couldn’t find what they wanted on the market. We met with them via Skype and talked them through a House & Land package we had available on the lower slopes of Mt Pleasant.

The pre-drawn plans suited their needs - but we reworked the heating plan to incorporate central heating with radiators and the joinery design to meet their specific needs. Both Brendon and Srey were careful decision-makers - but as with most married couples, they had differing priorities! Robust debates were a key part of the decision-making process - and we allowed plenty of time to talk through the pros and cons of available options.

Making plans from across the ditch was an exercise in communication and trust. The consultation process took place via video chat; we pencilled in all of the choices using photographs and samples sent in the post - and locked them in during a big week of in-person visits!

The care taken with decisions is immediately evident when walking through the finished home which is equal parts practical and beautiful.  It’s the materials that stand out in this home -  the cedar cladding, wool carpet, oak flooring, ceramic tiles and linen curtains; all the subtle textures and tones work together to create a feeling of cosiness and calm. This is as good as it gets with family living!

Kind Words:

“We chose a house & land package; we loved the location, floorplan and that the build was already underway, which meant we saved a lot of time, but could still put our touches through the interiors and make some variations. We love the functionality of the space - while all our family living is on one level, we have a bedroom with ensuite downstairs which is so practical for guests - or to use as an office. It was difficult deciding on our colour scheme - thankfully, with Zia’s great help, we are extremely happy with the outcome - including the big risk with the feature wall in the master! Having moved from Australia, we really appreciate that the house is toasty warm and we never go cold - especially in the cold Canterbury winters.” - Srey, Homeowner
